To make the sgraffito plate I first picked a plate shape mold to use so I picked a small square. Then I rolled out a blal of clay to make it flat. Then I molded it to the square and left it in frount of the fan for 20 minutes. After that I slowly fliped the mold over and the plate came off. Then I had to wait a day to paint it black, and wait another day for it to fully dry. While I was waiting I traced my leaf onto tracing paper. Then when the black paint was dry I traced over the tracing paper with pen ontop of the plate so the shape of the leaf would be lightly ingraved in the plate. Then I traced the leaf again on the plate and carved it to show.
What makes a successfull sgraffito is taking your time and making sure to trace over everything exactly how it originally was.
I chose to make a leaf because again the season in which we started this project was fall and I was trying to make something that represented something in my life. And the seasons greatly effect my life.
